The four steps

1. Remove the battery. Disconnect it from the internal connector and take it out of the garment entirely. This is the only step that matters absolutely.

2. Zip all pockets. Including the interior pocket that holds the connector, the hand pockets, and the main front zipper. Closed zippers protect the hardware and stop anything snagging in the drum.

3. Machine-wash cold. A normal cold cycle with your usual detergent.

4. Tumble-dry low. Low heat, standard cycle. No air-drying step required.

Can you put an EarthBae in the dryer?

Yes, on low.

This is worth stating plainly because plenty of heated apparel cannot go in a dryer at all. EarthBae Heat and EarthBae Core are built to tumble-dry low as part of normal laundry, which is the difference between a garment you actually wash and one that sits in a pile because the care routine is a project.

Keep it on low rather than high. Low is the specification.

Does the battery go anywhere near the wash?

Never.

Remove it from the garment before the wash and keep it away from water entirely. If the contacts look dusty, wipe them with a dry cloth. If the casing itself needs cleaning, a barely damp cloth on the outside only, away from the ports, then let it dry completely.

Reconnect once the garment is out of the dryer and cool.

How often does it need washing?

Less often than a base layer, because it is worn as an outer layer.

Once or twice through a season plus a wash before you put it away is enough for most wear. Spot clean in between with a damp cloth and a little detergent, blotting rather than scrubbing.

Before you wear it again

Reconnect the battery, press the button, and check the LED responds. Run through the settings for a few seconds each and confirm the heat comes up across the chest and back rather than in one place.

If something is not responding, check the connector seating first. A cable that is not fully seated is the most common cause and the quickest fix.

Storing it between seasons

Wash it before you store it. Body oils and salt work on fabric over months, so the end-of-season wash matters more than any other one.

Hang it rather than compressing it. A wide hanger in a closet is better than a vacuum bag. Long compression flattens insulation and creases the internal wiring paths.

Store the battery separately at a partial charge. Lithium packs degrade fastest sitting at empty or at completely full. Somewhere in the middle, dry, at room temperature, with a top-up once during the off months. A pack left flat all summer comes back with noticeably less capacity than one stored partly charged.
