EcoDispose — Free Battery Recycling for Any Brand
Active Thermal Regulation Apparel: Heating + Cooling on One Battery
Free mail-in recycling for any 7.4V lithium battery from any heated apparel brand. ORORO, Gobi Heat, Gerbing, Venture Heat, EarthBae — all accepted. A prepaid USPS label arrives by email. No drop-off. No purchase. No cost.
Most heated vests, jackets, and hoodies sold in the United States ship with a 7.4V lithium battery. After roughly 300 to 500 charge cycles — two to four years of regular use — that battery needs to be recycled. Per EPA guidance, it cannot go in household trash, cannot go in curbside recycling, and often cannot go in store drop-off bins.
The default — for almost everyone — is the trash. Heavy metals into the waste stream, fire risk in collection trucks, recycling facilities, and landfills.
EarthBae built the free mail-in alternative the category was missing — and made it work for every brand, not just ours.
Per U.S. EPA, lithium-ion batteries at end of life are likely hazardous waste and must not go in household garbage or curbside recycling. EPA recommends battery collection sites, household hazardous waste programs, or mail-in pathways like EcoDispose.
The typical lifespan of a 7.4V heated apparel battery before meaningful capacity loss. After this point, most consumers discard — often incorrectly.
How long a well-maintained 7.4V battery lasts for regular heated apparel users before it needs to be replaced and recycled.
Free for any brands 7.4V battery. Never to the landfill.

small brand * big results
We are a small brand from Asheville, North Carolina.
We built EcoDispose because the infrastructure did not exist, and waiting for someone larger to build it would have meant more batteries in landfills.
Company size is not a prerequisite. Doing the right thing is.
"Someone had to build this.
We decided not to wait."
EcoDispose is free for anyone with a 7.4V lithium battery from any heated apparel product. No purchase required. No brand affiliation required. No cost. Ever.
Most 7.4V heated apparel batteries are rated for 300 to 500 charge cycles before meaningful capacity degradation. For someone using their heated vest three to four times per week during cold months, that is approximately two to four years of normal use.
The battery does not stop working suddenly — capacity declines gradually. Knowing the signs of a battery approaching end of life helps you plan ahead and recycle responsibly rather than discarding in frustration.
Reaches target temperature quickly. Runtime at each setting matches original specifications. Charges fully within the expected time window.
Runtime on low has dropped below 6 hours. Heat output takes noticeably longer to reach target temperature. Charging time has increased. Plan to replace and recycle within the season.
Battery below 70% of original capacity. Significant reduction in runtime and heat output. Do not discard in trash or recycling bin. Request your EcoDispose label today.

Yes. Gerbing's heated apparel typically uses a 7V lithium-ion pack, and Venture Heat uses 7V or 12V depending on product line.
EcoDispose accepts the 7V and 7.4V heated apparel batteries from both brands— 7V and 7.4V labels reflect cell-tolerance variance and are functionally the same lithium-ion pack for recycling purposes. Venture Heat 12V motorcycle and dive batteries are not covered. EcoDispose accepts the consumer 7V/7.4V apparel batteries regardless of corporate parent.
Most 7.4V heated apparel batteries are rated for 300 to 500 charge cycles before meaningful capacity degradation. For a person using their heated vest 3 to 4 times per week during cold months, that is approximately 2 to 4 years of use. Signs of end-of-life include reduced runtime (below 70% of original), slower warm-up time, and increased charging duration.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency states that lithium-ion batteries should not go in household garbage or curbside recycling. Per EPA guidance, most end-of-life lithium-ion batteries are likely hazardous waste due to ignitability and reactivity, and they cause fires during transport, at landfills, and at recycling facilities. EPA recommends taking lithium batteries to battery collection sites or household hazardous waste programs — or using a mail-in pathway like EcoDispose.
If your battery is 7V or 7.4V lithium and it came from a heated apparel product, EcoDispose accepts it. Volt Heat, Mobile Warming, Chaheati, AlphaCool, and other smaller-brand 7.4V packs all qualify. Select "Other" on the request form— EarthBae will confirm eligibility by email before sending your prepaid label.
Because the lithium disposal problem exists across the entire heated apparel category regardless of brand, and free is the only model that actually changes behavior at scale. A paid program adds friction — people default to incorrect disposal rather than paying for recycling. EarthBae built EcoDispose as a free service because the environmental outcome is more important than recovering the cost, and because we believe the brand that sets the category standard earns long-term trust.
No. EcoDispose is specifically for 7V and 7.4V lithium batteries from heated apparel— vests, hoodies, jackets, and similar garments. Tool batteries (typically 12V or higher), e-bike batteries, scooter batteries, and consumer electronics batteries require different recycling pathways. EPA recommends Earth911 or Call2Recycle to locate the right collection point for those.
EarthBae uses the form information only to email your prepaid label and your recycling confirmation.
We do not sell, share, or store your data for marketing purposes. You are not added to any mailing list.
